Event: ‘English-Language Premiere of “Chaika” Documentary’

“Chaika: a criminal drama in five acts” has frayed political nerves in Russia. The documentary, produced by Alexey Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation, revealed the vast wealth of Russia’s Prosecutor General and the most powerful man in Russia’s judicial system, Yuri Chaika. The documentary alleges most of Chaika’s wealth was acquired through corrupt means and in business with one of Russia’s most notorious and most violent organised-crime families, the Tsapoks. The documentary has caused such a stir in Russia that President Vladimir Putin was questioned about his anti-corruption efforts during his annual stage-managed press conference on 17 December 2015.

A preview of the documentary was shown on BBC’s Newsnight on Friday, 22 January 2016. See http://youtu.be/qU2AVcyUgGU.

By kind invitation of Chris Bryant MP, The Henry Jackson Society and the Anti-Corruption Foundation are pleased to invite you to the English-language premier of “Chaika”.The screening of the film will be followed by a discussion with Vladimir Ashurkov, Executive Director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation and Roman Borisovich, Supervisory Board Member of the Anti-Corruption Foundation. The event will include an introduction from Dr Andrew Foxall, Director of the Russia Studies Centre at HJS.
